Summer to Fall: Transition Your Space with Wallpaper

When the nights become a little chillier, and the days a little shorter, it's a tell-tale sign we have to wave goodbye to the warmer months and embrace autumn with open arms. There are many ways to do this, and starting with your home is the perfect way to begin! Wallpaper is a simple solution to changing a home's look without the hassle of a total seasonal revamp. The right design will not only complement other autumn-themed pieces you choose to display but enhance the overall feeling of a space.

Cagliari wallpaper

One of our favorite ways to do this is with faux finish wallcoverings. This mimics the appearance of a material and can be a powerful tool in elevating your home. Using warmer hues is one of the foundational concepts of autumn decor. We love our Cagliari design. It’s a copper-bronze-shaded wallpaper with a cork-like textured appearance. This will complement any other fall details in your space, drawing the eye and making them appear more noticeable. Another warm-toned design we love for fall is Belgium Linen in Cinnabar. The subdued cranberry color instantly warms a space, which will play off seasonal decor like cozy throws and pillows around the room.

Floral Toile - Bordeaux wallpaper

Florals and foliage go hand-in-hand during this season. This reminds us of changing foliage and the crunching of dried leaves. Our Floral Toile wallpaper in Bordeaux features a dark maroon background with neutral orange botanical elements. It doesn’t get more seasonal than this color combo. This wallpaper can effortlessly enhance the appearance of gourds or foliage wreaths. Sometimes, a space just needs that extra touch to transition into fall. At times, this means getting a little more festive.

Coastal Cottage - Warm wallpaper

We love our Coastal Cottage wallcovering in Warm. This orange pattern features autumn-inspired imagery, such as pumpkins and woven baskets. This design embodies the cozier seasons, perfect for a dining space or kitchen. Samples are strongly encouraged to be sure you're happy with the color, scale, material, and design.

Here are some tips to help you get started!

How do I transition my home from summer to fall?

Your space can fully welcome the autumn season by focusing simply on the colors and prints around your furniture. Do you mainly have sunshine shades and bright florals? These may be swapped out for cozy throws or hues of beige. Consider small changes like placing candles or gourds around the home to get into the spirit.

When should I start decorating for fall?

Once the seasons change, you will naturally feel the urge to adapt your home accordingly. This transition typically happens in late August and goes into September or even October. It’s never too late (or too early) to begin welcoming fall by switching up your decor.

Which room should I focus on?

Any space designed for relaxation and lounging is a good place to start. An attic, in particular, is perfectly suited to the season. Thanks to its inherent small and quiet nature, an attic can easily become a cozy nook with the right decor touches. For more inspiration, see Redfin's tips for creating a welcoming attic space here
